Empty Lines

Playground

Our environments are paved with purpose. To be driven on, walked on, played on. To be used.

And so often, that use is delineated by thin strips of paint. They tell us to keep within the lines, only use the crosswalk, stay inbounds. They are directions for our daily lives. Their meaning is meted out by car, pedestrian or child.

But with the absence of people and their machines, meaning is lost. All that is left are white lines on a dark background. Graphic shapes with the occasional arrow or number pointing at something that was.
